Position Summary

The Production Engineer plays a key role in bridging engineering design with production execution. This role ensures that centrifugal pumps and their components (such as impellers, casings, shafts, seals, and bearings) are manufactured and assembled efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. The Production Engineer will be responsible for developing, monitoring, and continuously improving manufacturing processes, reducing downtime, and driving cost and efficiency improvements while ensuring compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.

Essential Responsibilities

    1. Production Process Management
    • Supervise and support the daily production of centrifugal pumps, ensuring adherence to established schedules and quality requirements.
    • Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and BOMs to ensure correct manufacturing and assembly processes.
    • Collaborate with planning and procurement to align material availability with production demand.
    • Coordinate pump assembly, balancing, hydrostatic testing, and final inspection processes.
    1. Process Development & Optimization
    • Design, implement, and refine manufacturing processes for machining, assembly, and testing of centrifugal pumps.
    • Conduct time studies and line balancing to improve throughput and reduce cycle times.
    • Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and 5S principles to eliminate waste and increase efficiency.
    • Recommend and implement automation or tooling improvements for repetitive tasks.
    1. Technical Support & Troubleshooting
    • Serve as the first line of technical support for production teams, resolving process and equipment issues quickly.
    • Analyze root causes of production problems and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
    • Provide engineering input to reduce scrap, rework, and non-conformities.
    1. Quality & Compliance
    • Work with Quality Assurance to ensure centrifugal pump components meet dimensional tolerances, material specifications, and performance standards.
    • Support internal and external audits (ISO 9001, API 610, or equivalent).
    • Lead failure investigations on defective parts or assemblies and propose engineering-based solutions.
    1. Equipment, Tooling & Technology
    • Specify, procure, and validate tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to support efficient pump assembly and machining.
    • Collaborate with Maintenance to schedule preventive maintenance of CNC machines, balancing equipment, and testing rigs.
    • Support calibration and accuracy verification of production tools and instruments.
    1. Continuous Improvement
    • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency gains in production processes.
    • Participate in Kaizen workshops and continuous improvement projects.
    • Track KPIs such as OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), downtime, and production yield.
    1. Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Act as a technical bridge between Production, Design Engineering, Planning, Procurement, and Quality teams.
    • Provide manufacturability feedback during new product introduction (NPI) or design changes.
    • Train operators and technicians on new processes, safety practices, and best methods.

Position Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or Industrial Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in production engineering within centrifugal pump manufacturing, rotating equipment, or precision mechanical industries.
  • Proven knowledge of pump component manufacturing (machining of impellers, casings, shafts, etc.), assembly methods, and hydraulic testing.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or equivalent).
  • Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) for process documentation and tooling design.
  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or other structured improvement methodologies (Green Belt certification preferred).

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong technical knowledge of centrifugal pump design and production processes.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis (RCA) and structured problem-solving (5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work across departments and train teams.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
