Position Summary

The ESHQ & Lean Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe, environmentally compliant, high‑quality, and continuously improving manufacturing environment. The role integrates Environment, Safety, Health, Quality, and Lean manufacturing principles to drive regulatory compliance, ISO management system effectiveness, operational discipline, and a strong safety and quality culture across the factory.

Essential Responsibilities

Environment, Safety & Health (ESH)

  • Act as the site champion for workplace health and safety, promoting visible and proactive safety leadership
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, risk assessments, and safe work practices
  • Lead weekly safety talks (toolbox meetings) and facilitate employee engagement in safety initiatives
  • Conduct routine and scheduled Gemba walks focused on safety, quality, and operational discipline
  • Prepare and present monthly safety performance reports and safety deck presentations to leadership teams
  • Lead incident, near miss, and hazard investigations using root cause analysis techniques
  • Maintain registers for hazards, incidents, corrective actions, training, and safety metrics
  • Support emergency preparedness, evacuation drills, and contractor safety management
  • Champion continuous improvement of safety culture through behavioural safety and engagement programs

Environmental Compliance & Government Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental legislation, regulations, and licence conditions
  • Prepare, manage, and submit required environmental documentation and reports to government departments
  • Maintain environmental management plans, permits, registers, and compliance evidence
  • Monitor waste management, emissions, and resource usage to support environmental objectives
  • Coordinate environmental audits, inspections, and regulator interactions as required

Quality Management System (QMS)

  • Maintain accountability for the effectiveness and compliance of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System
  • Control quality documentation including procedures, work instructions, forms, and records
  • Coordinate corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes and continuous improvement activities
  • Plan, conduct, and report internal quality audits in alignment with ISO requirements
  • Support external ISO certification and surveillance audits
  • Promote quality awareness and process discipline across all operational teams

Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement

  • Support and lead Lean manufacturing initiatives to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Facilitate continuous improvement activities using Lean tools such as 5S, Kaizen, standard work, and visual management
  • Encourage employee participation in problem solving and improvement programs
  • Embed Lean thinking into daily operations and safety management systems

Workshop Equipment & Maintenance Coordination

  • Coordinate and maintain workshop equipment maintenance and inspection schedules
  • Ensure statutory inspections, certifications, and maintenance activities are completed on time
  • Maintain maintenance records and compliance documentation
  • Support reliability and preventative maintenance initiatives from a safety and compliance perspective

Position Requirements

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of environmental, health, safety, and quality compliance requirements
  • Hands‑on experience with ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 management systems
  • Internal auditing skills with the ability to plan, conduct, and report audits
  • Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement capability
  • Effective communication, coaching, and presentation skills
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail

 

Qualifications & Experience

Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Workplace Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Demonstrated experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is required.

ISO Internal Auditor qualification and Lean / Continuous Improvement training are highly desirable.
